Alpha 5 coming soon!
We hope you all had a good start to the new year! Since the holiday break, our dev team has been focused on the upcoming Alpha 5 which will bring many quality-of-life improvements to the UI & UX, better animations, a better onboarding for new players and new content. You can check out the progress in our weekly video series "Base Builder Monday" on YouTube. The Alpha 5 update will be ready in the coming weeks. We will update you here as always.
One of the new features of the Alpha 5 will be that we are starting to add more languages to the game. Which brings us to:
Community Translations – Help us translate the game into your language!
Are you well-versed in a non-English language? We are looking for Community Translators to make the demo of Ground of Aces more accessible to more people!
We have set up a tool that makes it easy to translate the texts of the Ground of Aces demo/alpha into your language. You can translate as much as you want in your own time through Crowdin and earn your name in the credits of the game!
Our community members from the Discord started a week ago, and some of them were already very diligent. We were really curious which language would get to 100% first and the winner is: Turkish, thanks to our Discord member SunnyWinterDay who got it to 100%! Thank you so much for your service!
And we're making good progress with other languages as well: Simplified Chinese and the British English version have also reached 100%. French is now at 85%, German at 48% and Italian at 41%. Check it out for yourself!
But even if your language is already at 100%, you can still go through the text strings, give a new suggestion if you see a mistake and upvote the translation that you think fits best. We appreciate all the help!

Click on the “Merged” file, this opens up the editor. (Google Sheets → [MERGED]I2Loc SquadronLeader_Demo_Localization_Latest → Merged).
In the editor, you can start entering your translations.
Don’t forget to click “Save” at the top.
You can upvote existing translations. The most upvoted translation will be put into the game.
The tool has an AI feature that suggests translation. If you already see that the AI suggests a good translation, you can simply click it and it gets added as the translation.
Rules:
Variables look like this: {[AIRPLANE]} please don’t translate the words inside the brackets and make sure you leave the brackets as they are. The game code will know what to do and automatically exchange the right word with the variable, like for example, it will insert Hawker Hurricane into the string where it has the {[AIRPLANE]} variable in the text.
Formatting tags look like this: <b> and </b>. In this example, these tags will make the words appear bold in the game. Translate the word between <b> and </b> and keep the tags around the same word in your translation. Example: <b>Airplane</b> would be <b>Flugzeug</b> in German.
Don’t add manual line breaks if the original does not have them.
Some strings have a limit. It's more of a soft limit. It would be good to stay roughly within the same length as English, but we know that this doesn't work well with all languages.

Happy holidays, commanders! For Christmas, we have something special for you: the Alpha 4 update is already here! It's a smaller release, but we wanted to give the community something new to play for the holiday break.
This Alpha 4 update brings a major game mechanic change: you progress and level up your base now with the new HQ relationship system. You will have to make the right decisions while starting your base and when sending out your pilots for the first missions. If you complete missions successfully, you will earn Victory Points that you need when ordering new planes and you will get better weekly resource shipments from HQ. If you fail the missions, you have to deal with the consequences of losing planes, pilots and receiving less valuable HQ shipments. There's also now a Game Over scenario, it’s possible to fully lose the game.
These new subsystems fundamentally change how you progress in the game. With these systems, we will be able to structure and tell the story of the Battle of Britain when we're further along in development.
To our Alpha backers: Please note, your old Alpha 3 save files will probably not work any more for Alpha 4. For a major update like this, the save files won't be compatible because of the changes of the subsystems.
Why was this update released faster than the previous Alphas?
Because we wanted to give the community something special for Christmas! And during the Christmas break, many have more time to play and test the latest features. Play the demo and tell us your input and thoughts via the in-game feedback tool and survey link!
How do you like the new progression system and the feel of it? What do you think about the missions? What do you think about the balancing? We need all the fresh feedback from you, so we can keep improving the game with your help.

Meanwhile, our team has already started work on the next alpha update, featuring new features like the relationship system between your base and HQ. The Alpha 4 update will be a bit smaller but with a shorter waiting time: We plan to release it before the Christmas break. An Alpha 5 update will follow a bit later in the new year. To all the alpha and demo players who already participated: Thank you so much for playing and for all the phenomenal feedback we’ve received from you! We are very happy with how many people we were able to reach with our first demo and the input we collected.
We also want to take this chance and tell you a bit more about the upcoming alpha phase of Ground of Aces - which fittingly involves more plane-related features.

You didn't have time to try out the free demo of Ground of Aces during TactiCon? Don't worry, we are extending the demo time for a full week because our game is also part of the SIMFEST event on Steam!
To all of you who already tried out the demo and to our alpha backers who played the Alpha 2 update: thank you all so much for playing and for all your feedback!
Getting impressions and input from our Kickstarter supporters and also from completely fresh people is really valuable for our work. The feedback from the alpha backers is collected separately, so we can compare what is important to our most invested supporters and what to complete newcomers. All the feedback will help us to make Ground of Aces better, but your input as a backer is especially important!
